The car already has a newer version of the app you’re installing, and Android never installs an older version on top of a newer one. The installer shows The car has a newer version.

Why Android refuses it

Every Android app carries a version number. Once an app is installed, Android only accepts the same or a newer version on top of it, so an update can never quietly roll an app back. The car makes this check itself; the installer only reports the result.

Do you really need the older version?

Usually not: if you’re trying to install JaecooApp, the copy on the car is already more recent. Open it and check for updates in System instead.

Install the older version anyway

  1. On the installer page, press Uninstall app to remove the current version.
  2. Press Install again to install the version you want.

For JaecooApp, uninstalling removes its data on the car (trip history, widget settings). If uninstalling is refused, see Can’t uninstall JaecooApp.

When it usually happens

  • You picked an older APK under Advanced options on the installer page, with Choose APK file… and Install this APK.
  • The app was already updated on the car, for example from Jaecoo Store in JaecooApp, and the APK on your computer is older.
  • You tested a beta build of JaecooApp and went back to the stable channel. Until the stable version catches up, System shows This channel is on an older build and the same rule applies.

Before you uninstall

Uninstalling deletes the app’s data on the car. For JaecooApp, note your widget settings and fuel price first. Recorded trips can’t be exported yet, so they are lost with the app.

Frequently asked questions

Can the installer force the older version without uninstalling?

No. Android doesn't let an installed app go back to an older version. The only way is to uninstall it, then install the version you want.

Do other apps on the car need to be removed too?

No. Only the app that shows the error has to be uninstalled. YouTube, Google Maps and the other apps stay on the car.
