The Jaecoo J7 and Omoda C5 support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto: your phone runs the apps and the car shows them. The other option is to install apps on the head unit itself with JaecooApp. You can have both.

When projection is better

  • You want your phone’s apps exactly as they are, with nothing to install on the car.
  • You don’t want to share a hotspot from your phone.

When apps on the car are better

  • Several drivers use the car with different phones.
  • You want your phone free for calls, or don’t want to plug it in for every trip.
  • You want YouTube when parked, or two apps on screen at once.

Using both

Nothing has to be switched off: plug in your phone for CarPlay or Android Auto when you want it, and the apps on the head unit are still there when you unplug. One thing to know with an Android phone: if it also shares its hotspot with the car, JaecooApp suggests turning Android Auto off on the phone, because it can interfere with the car’s Wi-Fi (details).

Get started

  1. Enable ADB, then install JaecooApp with the installer.
  2. Connect the head unit to your phone’s hotspot.
  3. Install the apps worth having.

Frequently asked questions

Can I still use CarPlay or Android Auto after installing JaecooApp?

Yes. Installing apps on the head unit doesn't change phone projection.

Which uses less phone battery?

Apps on the head unit, since your phone only shares its internet. With projection the phone runs the apps.

Do apps on the head unit work without a phone at all?

They run without a phone, but most need internet. Without a hotspot or another Wi-Fi network, streaming and live traffic stop working.
