The Jaecoo J7 screen runs Android, but it ships without YouTube and without Google Play. This guide puts YouTube with sign-in, playlists and background playback on the J7 in about 15 minutes, without rooting the car.

You will do three things:

  1. Turn on ADB in the car’s engineering menu.
  2. Install JaecooApp from your browser over a USB cable.
  3. Install MicroG and YouTube from Jaecoo Store, right on the car screen.

What you need

  • A laptop or Android phone with Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
  • A USB-A to USB-A data cable. If your laptop or phone only has USB-C, add a USB-C to USB-A OTG adapter. A charge-only cable will not work.
  • The car switched on, screen awake, and Bluetooth turned off on the head unit (disconnect your phone first).

Step 1: Enable ADB on the Jaecoo J7

  1. On the car screen, open Settings → System.
  2. Under Version information, tap the title 10 times until the engineering menu opens.
  3. Tap Encryption. A password window appears; note whether it says Version 1.0, 2.0 or 3.0.
  4. Work out the password with the calculator in the ADB guide and enter it.
  5. Open ADB SWITCH and set Adb Switch to Open.

Step 2: Install JaecooApp from your browser

  1. Open the JaecooApp installer in Chrome or Edge.
  2. Connect the cable between your laptop or phone and the car’s USB-A port.
  3. Press Connect Head Unit and pick the head unit in the browser’s device list.
  4. On the car screen, tap Allow in the Allow USB debugging? dialog and tick Always allow from this computer.
  5. Press Install JaecooApp and keep the cable plugged in until it opens on the car.

If the car does not show up in the device list, see Car not found in the WebUSB installer.

Step 3: Install MicroG and sign in

YouTube needs Google sign-in, which normally comes from Google Play Services. On the J7 that job is done by MicroG.

  1. Open JaecooApp on the car screen and go to Jaecoo Store.
  2. Install MicroG.
  3. Open MicroG and sign in with your Google account. Do this before opening YouTube.

Step 4: Install YouTube

  1. In Jaecoo Store, install Morphe YouTube.
  2. Open it and choose the Google account you added in MicroG.

That’s it: you get YouTube without ads, your subscriptions and playlists, and background playback, so audio keeps playing when you switch to the map. For music, install Morphe YouTube Music from the same store.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I just install the normal YouTube app?

The Jaecoo J7 head unit has no Google Play Services, so the regular YouTube app cannot sign in or play properly. Morphe YouTube is a YouTube build that uses MicroG instead of Google Play Services.

Do I need a computer every time YouTube updates?

No. The computer is only needed once, to install JaecooApp. After that, Jaecoo Store in JaecooApp shows an "Update available" badge and updates apps right on the car screen.

Do I need to root the car?

No. Everything goes through ADB, a switch in the car's own engineering menu, and you can turn it off again afterwards.

Can I watch YouTube while driving?

Only watch video when the car is parked. While driving, use YouTube or YouTube Music for audio only and always follow your local road rules.
